How to groom your back at home

rubbing the back for pain

Lumbar pain in most people is associated with sciatica, although the causes are quite different.

Such a symptom accompanies not only the defeat of the paraspinal structures, but also many diseases of the gastrointestinal tract and urogenital system, as well as metabolic disorders and oncological processes.

This is why, before using alternative methods, it is highly recommended that you consult a doctor and find out the cause of the pain.

In addition, acute back pain does not always stop with the usual methods - pills or lotions. Sometimes surgery or medical exclusion is required.

A complex approach

If the back hurts in the lumbar region, the most common diagnosis is "osteochondrosis" or "intervertebral hernia". A basic condition for successful treatment is the elimination of the causative agent that caused the pain. Otherwise, the drugs or physiotherapy will be powerless and the disease will become chronic.

The treatment of the back and spine begins with a frugal shape, which means the rejection of any physical activity. For severe pain, bed rest is recommended. To speed up your recovery and get rid of the discomfort, doctors advise you to buy an orthopedic pillow and mattress.

This will reduce the load on the spine, prevent compression of the nerve endings and muscle spasms. If you can not buy special devices, then it is better to sleep on a mattress of medium hardness and choose a pillow of medium thickness.

Medication prescribed by a doctor usually includes not only anti-inflammatory drugs and painkillers, but also vitamin complexes. During the recovery period, physiotherapy, exercise therapy, massage are performed. As an additional method, you can use folk remedies, which should be agreed in advance with your doctor. With a well-known diagnosis and specialist approval, home treatment of the spine will be much more effective.

Folk recipes for back pain

You can eliminate the pain with the help of ordinary mustard plasters, which are present in almost every home. Due to the local reflex effect, they irritate the skin and increase blood flow. Due to the momentum of the blood, metabolic processes in the tissues are accelerated, oxygen transport is improved, pain and inflammation are reduced. Another important effect of mustard plasters is the stimulation of the synthesis of adrenaline and norepinephrine, which has a beneficial effect on the central nervous system.

Recipe number 1. Add 50 ml Furacilin and a teaspoon of liquid honey to the water for the mustard plasters. You can use a ready-made solution of Furacilin (sold at a pharmacy) or dissolve 1 tablet in 50 ml of water. Soak the prepared mustard plaster in the solution for a few seconds, then remove and apply to the sore spot.

Hold the compress until a burning sensation appears, then remove and wipe the skin dry. Spread it with cream or oil, cover it with plastic wrap and wrap it with a warm cloth.

Recipe number 2. Burdock leaves are another affordable home remedy that helps relieve back and waist pain. Rinse some fresh leaves and then place them in a pile so that they come in contact with each other on the green and purple side. Dip one foot into warm running water, pausing between layers to allow them to dry. Apply to the lower back, securing with a bandage and a warm scarf.

What to do if it "came in" in the back

Men are believed to be more susceptible to sciatica because they engage in physical work or sports, lift and carry heavy loads, drive for long periods of time, and are often overweight. As a result, they often complain that they have been "grabbed by the back" or "stuck" in the lumbar region.

Back pain can be overcome anywhere: at work, in the gym or at home. In this case, first aid measures will help:

  • Find the most beneficial position in which you feel less pain and stay in that position.
  • do not make sudden movements, it is good not to move at all.
  • take an analgesic or anti-inflammatory drug (Diclofenac, Ibuprofen).
  • apply an anti-inflammatory ointment to the painful area.
  • if there is a woolen elastic band, tie it around the waist, securing the spine in a stable position.
  • Lie on your back, bend your knees and put a pillow made of folded towel or blanket under them. In this position, the lumbar muscles relax as much as possible.

When the recommendations described are followed, the pain usually subsides in about half an hour. If you experience an attack of burning pain after a serious spinal injury, it is imperative to contact a traumatologist.

Medical assistance is also required in the following cases:

  • the victim is over 60 years old.
  • have an oncological disease.
  • increased body temperature;
  • The attack was preceded by long-term treatment with hormonal drugs.
  • lower back pain bothers you for more than a month;
  • significantly reduced body weight, despite the lack of diet.

If there are no painkillers at home and there is no strength to prepare treatments according to folk recipes, you can try to stun your back with a burdock leaf. It does not need to be scalded with boiling water, soaked or boiled, but simply spread it with a shiny side on the body. Secure with a bandage on top and wrap with a woolen scarf. Maintain compression for no more than 12 hours.

An equally simple recipe involves the use of valerian tincture if no burdock was found. It is necessary to moisten gauze or cotton cloth on it, which should then be placed on the lower back.

The next 2 recipes are a bit more difficult to prepare: one of them will need black radish and the second will need turpentine and red clay.

Recipe number 1. Grate the radish and put the cheesecloth. Apply to the back, cover with cellophane and insulate the affected back area. Hold until very hot.

Recipe number 2. Dilute 1 kg of clay with water, add 3 tablespoons of turpentine to it. You will get a cake-like mass, which is used as a compress.
